Interacting effects of handling and d-amphetamine on avoidance learning.

چکیده
Rats were injected with either saline or 2 mg/kg of d-amphetamine 10 min prior to 50 trials of training with either the one-way, shuttle or shuttle-with-handling procedure. One-way training yielded more avoidances and shorter avoidance latencies than did either variant of shuttle training; it was not affected by the drug. The frequency of avoidances under shuttle training, on the other hand, was increased either by d-amphetamine or by handling the animal during the intertrial interval. When both the drug and handling were administered together, performance was similar to that during the usual shuttle training.

Neonatal handling and environmental enrichment effects on emotionality, novelty/reward seeking, and age-related cognitive and hippocampal impairments: focus on the Roman rat lines.
Roman high- and low-avoidance (RHA/Verh and RLA/Verh) rats are selected and bred for extreme divergence in two-way active avoidance acquisition. In addition, compared to RLA/Verh rats, RHA/Verh rats are (behaviorally and physiologically) less anxious or reactive to stressors, show increased novelty (sensation)-seeking behavior as well as a higher preference for rewarding substances, and are usu...
متن کاملProtective role of vitamin-D on chronic stress induced-learning and memory deficits in rats
Introduction: Long-term stress disturbs HPA axis and increases glucocorticoids release, which disturbs neural plasticity in the hippocampus and may lead to learning and memory deficits. Noticeably, vitamin D plays a protective role in the nervous system and has receptors in the hippocampus. This behavioral study investigates the possible protective role of vitamin-D against the negative effects...
متن کاملEffects of acute intra-hippocompal injection of bupropion on active avoidance learning in rats
Introduction: Learning and memory deficits in some diseases are new subjects of research. Bupropion, as dopamine and noradrenaline reuptake inhibitor and an antidepressant agent, has been previously shown to affect learning and memory processes. This study was designed to test the effect of intra-hippocompal bupropion injection on active avoidance learning task in rats. Methods: Adult male ...
متن کاملChronic and Sub-acute Effects of 3,4-methylenedioxy methamphetamine (MDMA) on Spatial Memory and Passive Avoidance Learning in Wistar Rats
Introduction: In the recent years, the use of several drugs such as cocaine and morphine has reduced, but the use of "club drugs" has increased in many countries. 3, 4-methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA) which has known as ‘ecstasy’ among people has many harmful effects on serotonergic system in the brain. This system is responsible for learning and memory. In this study, we tested sub-acute a...
متن کاملAmphetamine-induced memory impairment in a discriminative avoidance task is state-dependent in mice.
In both humans and laboratory animals, the reports of cognitive effects following acute amphetamine (Amph) administration are mixed and depend, for example, on the timing of administration (e.g. before or after task acquisition) and/or on the memory model used. Besides its cognitive effects, Amph produces other important behavioural effects, including alterations in anxiety and general activity...
